Sedona Wolf Week is a beloved annual celebration of our wild canine friends. From April 17th until the 21st, wolf lovers descend on Sedona for five days of education, entertainment, and fundraising. Wolf Week’s mission is to spread an appreciation of these beautiful and fascinating creatures while helping to foster a peaceful co-existence between wolves and humans. Both children and adults will find a lot to love at Sedona Wolf Week, from film screenings to educational panels to meet-and-greets with real life wolves. Here are the highlights from this year’s festival. We’ll see you there!

Throughout the week, the Mary D. Fisher Theater will screen wolf-themed films, often followed by Q&As with the filmmakers or experts in the field. This year, you have the chance to see:

  • Alpha and Omega: A 3D computer animated feature about two young wolves from rival packs who must find a way to get back to Jasper Park after being relocated to Idaho. You might recognize voices from Justin Long, Dennis Hopper, Danny Glover, Christina Ricci, and Hayden Panettiere.
  • The Right to Be Wild: An inspiring documentary about the Mexican Gray Wolf, or Lobo, the most endangered subspecies of Gray Wolf in the world. The film focuses on the scientists who study them, the conservationists who fight to save them, the everyday citizens who love them, and of course, the Lobos themselves.
  • The War in Between: Set on a 20-acre wolf sanctuary located in Frazier Park, California, this powerful documentary explores the relationship between war veterans and rescued wolves. The sanctuary serves as a testing ground for cross-species therapy, where both wolves and war veterans work together to fight against the fear and depression that results from their respective experiences of trauma.

First-rate speakers from across the country also come to Sedona Wolf Week to share their knowledge and expertise. This year, Nake Blakeslee, renowned author of American Wolf: A True Story of Survival and Obsession in the West, will be here to discuss his book and the true story of the legendary Yellowstone Wolf O-Six.

You will also get the chance to hear the incredible story telling of world-renowned wolf advocate Carter Niemeyer, who was integral to the reintroduction of wolves into Yellowstone. Tickets to each of these events come with dinner, presentation, and VIP cocktails.

Wolf Week is also a perfect event for business owners or managers looking for a great corporate retreat or team building activity. Sign up for Philip Folson’s “Wolf Tribe Workshop,” an engaging and effective leadership theory that demonstrates what human groups can learn from a pack of wolf dogs.

But of course, the main draw of Wolf Week is the chance to meet and interact with an actual wolf pack. Though petting is not guaranteed, this is still a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with these wonderful animals while also donating to an important cause.

Sedona Wolf Week is one of our favorite weeks of the year and it also proves a memorable experience for our guests. Whether you come to watch a film, listen to a speaker, meet a wolf, or all of the above, we promise you will walk away with a renewed appreciation for our wolf dog friends and a deepened awareness of the complex relationship between man and beast.
