Spend a Day in History in Nearby Clarkdale, Alma de Sedona Inn

At Alma de Sedona Inn, we have endless, incredible and inspiring natural vistas for you to enjoy during your stay. But in addition to the luxurious amenities and sprawling vistas of our inn’s immediate surroundings, during your stay you can also take a quick 30-minute trip to the neighboring town of Clarkdale and immerse yourself in some of the region’s amazing history.

Verde Canyon Railroad

Clarkdale is home to some truly unique and fun historical experiences you can’t get anywhere else. First up is a trip aboard the Verde Canyon Railroad – a journey more than a hundred years in the making. In 2012, the state of Arizona and the Verde Canyon Railroad both celebrated their centennial anniversaries. Back when this railroad was built, it was the first of many new ways that the people who settled in the area came to navigate and tame the unforgiving landscape of Verde Valley.

Today you and your family can hop aboard our historically accurate and elegant train and travel the same route as those people more than 100 years ago. Along the way you’ll experience breathtaking views of the surrounding canyon, high cliffs, wildlife and other natural beauties. This is one experience you cannot miss.

At the Alma de Sedona Inn, our staff can give you first-hand accounts of this unique experience, and we’re happy to take care of making reservations for you. Just let us know when you call to book your stay and we can take care of the details for you!

Arizona Copper Art Museum

While you’re in Clarkdale, there’s one other attraction you have to make time for: the Arizona Copper Art Museum. Also called “Arizona’s Greatest Treasure,” the museum was created to celebrate the town of Clarkdale’s history with copper. The town used to be known as a major source of mass-produced copper during the early-to-mid 1900s – part of the reason for the advent of the original Verde Valley railroad line!

The copper museum offers its collection as a celebratory return of that copper that was once exported all around the world. The works of art displayed are made of copper originally sourced in Arizona and the Clarkdale region, and highlights unique creations made by artists from all around the world. The museum is open year round from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. except for Thanksgiving and Christmas, so be sure to check out all the unique sights during your trip to Clarkdale.

When you’re done with your day of sightseeing in Clarkdale, return to Sedona for some tranquil red-rock vistas and comfortable privacy at the Alma de Sedona Inn. Each of our unique guest spaces are designed specifically with your comfort and privacy in mind – so kick back, relax and enjoy your stay!
